The beginning
In the year 1919 Gottfried Schill started his business as a trader in Stuttgart, firstly with a buy and sell of fittings for coachwork and emergency tool kits for the motor industries, then after 1921 for the furniture processing industries.
In 1922 he engaged his first employee.
In 1928 he added builder’s hardware to his assortment, mainly for windows. His customers were glaziers, locksmiths and carpenters and joiners. He successfully started to supply not only the furniture industries but also other ironmongeries in the southwest of Germany, up to Austria and Switzerland.
The second venture business which had been significant for VBH was Schippert & Stetter KG founded in 1952. The trade with fittings and mountings, tools, machines, building and system components were part of Schippert & Stetter’s booming business and it became the most important competitor of the Gottfried Schill LLC.
